I have to admit that one area I seriously struggle with is budgeting. I always write out our monthly and weekly budget but I seriously struggle with sticking to it. Not only is it hard to stay disciplined sometimes, but my (wonderful, loving, hard working) husband doesn’t always understand the importance of sticking to a monthly budget and saving for larger expenses rather than buying things that he “needs” right away. (He really struggles with the difference between a “need” and a “want”. I mean, do you really need a brand new $1100 ride on lawn mower right now when we have a perfectly good push mower?). We have differing opinions on budgets and most of the time, it just isn’t worth arguing over.
However, all that aside, I have found, quite possibly, the most simple way to save money, ever. I mean, I don’t even have to think about my budget or saving at all! What’s my secret? A little app by the name of Digit. All you have to do it sign up, connect your bank account and the app does the rest for you!
If you’re anything like me, I’m sure that you are skeptical and need some more information before you just go and sign up. I completely get that so I am going to break it down for you here.
Once you connect your bank account, Digit analyzes your expense and income history so it knows what you can afford to save. It also looks for savings opportunities and will take a small amount that you don’t really need once or twice a week and set it aside in a savings account. You might not even notice that the money is not in your checking account any more and it definitely adds up. Personally, I have been actively using the Digit app for about 7 months and I have saved over $700!!!! That’s about $100 per month saved with just “spare change” that Digit has taken from my account. I’m telling you it’s magical!
Now, if for any reason you need to get that money back for something, you can withdraw it easily from your Digit account and put it back in your checking account. However, I have never needed to withdraw my money and Digit even offers a No Overdraft Guarantee, which goes to show how confident they are in their ability to predict your cash flow. The best part of Digit, is that it is absolutely free to use! There are no fees or minimums.
Using Digit is a great way to save money if you are like me and struggle with budgeting and saving money, or even if you are meticulous with your budget and savings and want to bump it up without having to think about it. You could also use this to save for a trip, pay down debt, an emergency fund, or buy your hubby that ride on lawn mower he really “needs” (I bet you could see my eyes rolling through the screen, couldn’t you?).
I highly reccommend Digit and suggest that you give it a try. You can sign up by clicking here.
Full disclosure, if you use the link above to sign up for Digit, I will get $5 added to my Digit account, but it will still be completely free for you! This also helps support my blogging efforts so I can continue to provide quality content for you.
If you struggle with saving money like I do, this may be a way to get a jump start. Digit takes all of the guess work out for you and makes it easy as can be. I hope that you find this tool as useful as I have!
I would love to hear if you have tried out Digit and what your experience has been like so far. Let me know in the comments!
