I have never been afraid of the cold and flu season. My family is relatively healthy, and although we do experience the occasional illness, we tend to recover quickly and seem to be sick much less than friends and neighbors. I credit this mostly to our healthy lifestyle, but also this natural common cold treatment I have created.
With kids in school, it is inevitable that they are going to be exposed to some yucky germs. But I have one trick up my sleeve that helps us fight our colds faster. Best of all, my kids absolutely love it!
So what is this magical potion. Well, first of all, it’s not magic, but I think it does a darn good job of helping us fight off colds and recover more quickly when we do get them.
I call it Apple Pie Tea. Giving it that name makes my kids think they are getting a treat. I don’t think that it actually tastes like apple pie, but my kids have never said otherwise. I gave it this name simply because I wanted my kids to be excited about it, and it was the closest flavor I could think of based on the ingredients.

Now let’s dive in to making it.
I do want to note that I am not a doctor or medical professional, nor do I pretend to be. I am just sharing what has worked for my family. This is not meant to replace the advice of your doctor.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Raw honey has antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It boosts the immune system and helps fight off colds faster. Use 1-2 TBS per 12 oz serving (to taste). Using local honey is best, but you can also order it here.
This ingredient is also antiviral and antibiotic. about 1 tsp per 12 oz serving. Find cinnamon here.
This is simply what makes it a “tea”. Make sure the water isn’t too hot or it will destroy the good nutrients in the raw ACV and honey. Also, you don’t want to burn your little ones’ mouths.
- Heat 2 cups of water in a tea kettle on low heat on the stove. It usually takes less than 5 minutes to get to the right temperature.
- Add the honey and cinnamon to the bottom of a mug and mix into a paste.
- Add the ACV and mix until well combined
- Make sure water isn’t too hot, and pour into mug. Stir until well mixed
I wanted to add the ACV has a strong flavor, and it may take your kids (or you) some time to get used to it. You may want to start with a smaller amount of apple cider vinegar and then gradually increase.
It’s that easy! As a preventative measure, I will serve this a couple times a week at breakfast so their immune system is functioning at a high capacity throughout the day. Once I notice a cold symptoms coming on, I will start giving them this everyday and maybe even twice a day. I have found that this helps them recover much faster.
Give this a try and let me know if it worked for you.
